Cables and adapters in various designs

A cable is a wire or several wires, coated with insulating material, which are responsible for the transmission of energy or data. The insulation is usually made of plastic. When a plurality of wires are in a cable, each wire itself is again surrounded by an insulating layer. Electrical conductors mainly consist of copper wire, but also less frequently made of aluminum. Optical waveguides are however made of plastic or quartz glass, and usually referred to simply as optical fiber cables. The cables are available in different lengths. Buyer should be noted however, the longer the cable, the more interference may obstruct the flow of data or slow.

An adapter is an electronic device which connects various mechanical and electronic components with each other and produces a bridge between the hardware components which are normally incompatible.

What kinds of cables and adapters are available?

In computer technology, a distinction depending on the use by power cable or data cable and also at the adapters there are different types of use. The most common types are listed below:

SATA & IDE cable and adapter

A SATA (newer) or IDE cable (older) and adapter for transferring data between the hard drive and the processor (CPU).

Floppy cable and adapter

The floppy cable connects the disk drive, the floppy drive, with the motherboard.

SCSI & SAS cables and adapters

A SCSI (older) or SAS cable (newer) or adapter is required for data transfer between different components in a computer, for example, between the drive or hard drive and the motherboard.

Network and USB cables and adapters

The network cable coming from the area of telecommunications and is used to transfer external data to the computer, for example, from the Internet or from another computer. Another way of external data transfer is done via a USB cable to the USB port.

Audio & video cables and adapters

Audio and video cables or adapters are responsible for the transmission of video and sound data. There are various designs such as jack, coaxial cable, VGA cable / adapter and HDMI cable.

Serial / parallel cables and adapters

In the field of digital communication, there are two types of data transfer. First, the serial data transmission, on the other hand, the parallel data transfer. There are also two different types of cables. Parallel data cables consist of several parallel wires (wires), hence the name, so that at the same time also more data can be transferred. However, serial data cable consist of one wire, so that the data can only be transferred in succession.

Power cables and adapters

Power cables are responsible for the internal and external power supply to the computer. The power supply provides the computer with power from an external source while the internal power cable supplying the individual hardware components with voltage.
