Socket 771 CPUs

In 2006, Intel brought with Socket 771 a new socket for processors of servers and workstations to the market. So he replaced the Socket 603 and 604 from in this area. The socket was used in the processors of Intel Xeon (Duo Core and Quad Core) and Core 2 Extreme series. The processors, depending on the version, based on the Dempsey, Woodcrest, Wolfdale-, Clovertown- and Harpertown microarchitecture. The socket has the type LGA with 771 contact surfaces and a AGTL + bus protocol. It is based electrically as well as mechanically strong to Socket 775 for desktop PCs. The front side bus supports clock frequencies between 166 MHz and 400 MHz. The Socket 771 was replaced in 2008 through the Socket 1366.
